PYTRA OYSTER

Una noche, Noelia soñó que era manager de un grupo de rock formado por mujeres. Oía las canciones, organizaba conciertos y abría una caja llena de álbumes. Sobre ellos, el nombre de la banda: Pytra Oyster. Se despertó y pensó que era un buen nombre y que si algún día tenía un grupo, lo llamaría así. Significa algo y nada a la vez, parece un nombre y un apellido pero no lo es... Lo escribió en un papel para no olvidarlo y volvió a dormir.

Unos años después, seguro que más de cinco y menos de diez, Noelia fue a un concierto del grupo de su hermana. Nico era el técnico de sonido y Noelia se quedó embelesada con la concentración y el amor con que trabajaba, con las largas barbas que se gastaba. Empezaron a hablar y se enamoró de lo que vio tras aquellas barbas. Nico se enamoró de lo que intuyó tras las gafas de Noelia.

Y en algún momento, empezaron a hablar de música. De Sonic Youth, de Enrique Morente, Kyuss, Tortoise, Queens of the Stone Age, Jeff Buckley, Patti Smith, Radiohead, Low, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Mark Lanegan, Nick Drake, Bill Callahan, John Coltrane, Viaje a 800, Wilco, Miles Davis, Betunizer, Cuzo, Betty Davis, Elliott Smith, Cowboy Junkies, Matt Elliott, TOOL, AC/DC, Los enemigos, 713avo amor, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Sunn O, Lisabö, Sex Pistols, Erik Satie, Nina Simone, The Velvet Underground, Neil Young…

Además de hablar, a los pocos días de conocerse empezaron a hacer ruido juntos, y decidieron que la química era buena, así que, Noelia le contó a Nico aquél sueño de hacía años, y Pytra Oyster se materializó. Los ruidos comenzaron a ser canciones o se convirtieron en nuevos ruidos.

Nico tocaba de vez en cuando con su amigo Roy, que conoció a Noe en una cena en casa de otro amigo. Roy tocaba también la guitarra con otros grupos y hacía temas para su mundo en solitario: Royness, que eran como él mismo, introvertidos a veces, atrevidos otras, siempre imaginativos.

Nico era además el técnico de sonido de Jaleo Real, un grupo de rumba de combate, cuyo cantante, Sito, era también batería, niño payaso y loro parlanchín. Más de un año después de que Pytra Oyster existiera como dúo, Sito empezó a tocar la batería con ellos. Mientras tanto, Roy había empezado a tocar también el bajo en un grupo de swing, Mala Junta Trío, y se unió a ellos también con su bajo, su voz y algunas de sus canciones.

Esa es Pytra Oyster ahora mismo, de momento y, ojalá, por muchos años.

Nico, Noe, Sito y Roy son Pytra Oyster. Llevan dos años juntos haciendo una suerte de rock con toques de lo que les sale sin pensar mucho. Les gustan las guitarras con ruiditos, los bajos y las baterías contundentes y sincopadas. A veces cantan, a veces no. Cuando no cantan, les gustaría sugerir espacios imaginarios, no muy evidentes, cambiantes, que se formen en la cabeza del que los oye y que mantengan la incertidumbre de la ruta, que no se sepa muy bien dónde van a aterrizar. Hay toques de melancolía y de oscuridad, pero también hay ritmo y caos. Cuando cantan, les gusta hablar de otros modos de ver. Sueñan con un mundo que sepa trascender la realidad limitada en que nos manejamos y que sugiera que no hay formas definitivas, que no hay una manera única de ser hombre, mujer, músico. La clave de todo, el amor. El amor por la música, el amor como expresión perfecta de la comunicación.

PYTRA OYSTER

One night, Noelia had a dream in which she was the manager of an all-women rock band. She heard the songs, organized concerts and opened a box filled with albums. On them, the band's name: Pytra Oyster. Noelia woke up and thought it was a good name and that if she ever had a band, that would be the name for it. It means something and nothing at the same time, it seems somebody’s first and last name but it isn’t… She wrote it up on a piece of paper not to forget it and went back to sleep.

A few years later, surely more than five but less than ten, Noelia went to a concert of her sister’s band. Nico was the sound engineer and Noelia was spellbound by the concentration and love he showed when doing his job, by the long beard he sported. They started to talk and she fell in love with what she saw behind that beard. Nico fell in love with what he sensed behind Noelia's glasses.

At some point, they started to talk about music. Beside talking, they started to make some noise together a few days after they met, and they decided the chemistry was good, so Noelia told Nico about that old dream and Pytra Oyster took shape. The noises turned into songs or became new noise.

Now and again, Nico would jam with his friend Roy, who met Noe at some friend’s dinner party. Roy also played guitar in other bands and wrote songs for his own solo world: Royness, which were just like him, sometimes introverted, sometimes daring, always imaginative.

Nico worked as Jaleo Real’s ‑—a rumba band whose singer, Sito, was also a drummer, clown-child and a chatterbox—‑ sound engineer. After a year of existence as a duo, Sito joined Pytra Oyster to do the drumming. In the meantime, Roy had started to play bass with a swing band, Mala Junta Trío, and joined them as well with his bass, his voice and some of his songs.

That is Pytra Oyster as it was born, as it is today and how it will hopefully be for many years to come.

Nico, Noe, Sito and Roy are Pytra Oyster. They’ve been making a kind of rock blended with thoughtless sounds for two years. They like noisy guitars, blunt and syncopated bass lines and drumming. Sometimes they sing, sometimes they don’t. When they don’t, they’d like to suggest imaginary landscapes, changing and not too obvious, the kind that materialize in the listeners’ head and keep the route uncertain, mysterious about where the music will land. There is a touch of melancholy and darkness, but there’s also rhythm and chaos. When they sing, they like to talk about different ways of seeing. They dream of a world that knows how to transcend the limited reality we live in, that suggests that there is no final form, there is not just one way of being man, woman, musician. The key to everything, love. Love for music, love as the perfect expression of communication.
